As a business owner, I wear many hats—marketer, bookkeeper, client advocate, and more. Lately, I've been struggling to find new work. Interest rates have risen, and there’s more risk to the buyer. Here are some things I’ve tried to find new clients: posting on Instagram and LinkedIn, cold calling, reaching out to old clients, adding a blog section to my website, researching hot topics in my field and sharing insights, and reaching out to realtors and builders to explore opportunities to work together—all while trying to stay positive and keep grinding.
Despite the effort, it can feel demoralizing when the work seems unnoticed. I don’t have the stability of a typical 9-to-5 job; I’m responsible for finding and doing the work, and it can be overwhelming.
I advocate for my clients and strive for excellence, but sometimes it feels like others involved in projects don’t share the same passion. When it gets too much, I meditate, exercise, and nourish my body. These activities bring temporary relief, but it’s just that—temporary. The stress and pressure often return, and the cycle begins anew. In the end, it’s not about escaping the stress, but being comfortable in it.
I’ve been at this for a long time, and sustained success remains elusive. It’s hard not to feel disheartened when you’ve invested so much time and energy with little to show for it. But I believe that perseverance and adaptability are key. Each challenge is a learning opportunity, and every setback offers a lesson.
