ROCKING CHAIR 1

$4,680.00

Rocking Chair —Designed by Jonathon Vinet and JDESIGNstudio
One of one.

This chair is weighty - solid, grounded, unmistakably built to last. Crafted from reclaimed 2x6s, its construction is deliberate: laminated in an overlapping pattern that creates architectural mass. Its profile reads like a bold line that creates the idea of a chair. It is balanced and inviting.

The natural wood grain and visible end grain celebrate the character of the material, while historic traces - nail holes, embedded fasteners, and drill scars - remain unapologetically exposed. These aren’t imperfections, but evidence of a previous life, now reassembled into something contemplative.

Framing lumber is rarely considered a fine furniture material. Yet here, it is elevated - with care, with polish, with purpose. Its softness, often seen as a flaw, becomes a virtue: it records impressions over time - a living archive of use, love, and life. When treated with care, it stays pristine. When neglected, it tells a story, bearing the marks of time.

Finished in beeswax - a natural, breathable, and easily repairable surface - the material is allowed to speak. Nothing is hidden. Nothing is overworked. The chair doesn’t demand attention; it earns it, through authenticity and quiet presence.

This is an object that finds balance - between function and form, furniture and sculpture, intention and imperfection.

This is a functional sculpture - one of a kind, had crafted, meaningful, and built with layered philosophical intent. This is not a mass market item, or even typical custom furniture, it is a meditative object with presence.

Sit, and Know You’re Sitting
by Jonathon Vinet

Sit, and know you’re sitting.
To sit is to pause -
to rest, reflect,
and let life unfold.

A chair is for comfort.
A rocking chair, for memory
a place to contemplate then, now, and what may come.

Most fine furniture uses precious hardwood:
strong, rare, proud.
But this chair is softwood:
humble, familiar, forgiving.

Softwood dents.
It scars.
And so, it remembers.

This chair is made from what’s close at hand -
common lumber, reclaimed from the landfill, and given uncommon care.
Mass layered in lines.
Joinery exposed.
Its structure, honest.

It accepts abuse,
but invites respect.
It carries weight,
yet offers peace.

It doesn’t hide its age.
It wears it -
a patina of time,
a canvas of care.

To sit in it is to be still,
even as you move.
To rock gently
between presence and thought.

And so, this chair listens,
as you do.

Sit, and know you’re sitting.

To rock gently
between presence and thought.

And so, this chair listens,
as you do.

Sit, and know you’re sitting.
