Sit, and Know You’re Sitting
by Jonathon Vinet
Sit, and know you’re sitting.
To sit is to pause -
to rest, reflect,
and let life unfold.
A chair is for comfort.
A rocking chair, for memory
a place to contemplate then, now, and what may come.
Most fine furniture uses precious hardwood:
strong, rare, proud.
But this chair is softwood:
humble, familiar, forgiving.
Softwood dents.
It scars.
And so, it remembers.
This chair is made from what’s close at hand -
common lumber, reclaimed from the landfill, and given uncommon care.
Mass layered in lines.
Joinery exposed.
Its structure, honest.
It accepts abuse,
but invites respect.
It carries weight,
yet offers peace.
It doesn’t hide its age.
It wears it -
a patina of time,
a canvas of care.
To sit in it is to be still,
even as you move.
To rock gently
between presence and thought.
And so, this chair listens,
as you do.
Sit, and know you’re sitting.
To rock gently
between presence and thought.
And so, this chair listens,
as you do.
Sit, and know you’re sitting.
